Resource boost for Tasmanian public schools

Tasmania’s Education Union is pushing for a boost in resources for public education.  They are asking for an additional 250 teachers as well as teacher’s assistants and literacy and numeracy specialists.

Helen Richardson, President of the state Australian Education Union said, “Quality education has been under threat in Tasmania from a legacy of cuts and underfunding…At the moment, we have only 60 school psychologists – that’s one for every 1000 students.”

The State Government said it has invested record funding.  Cabinet Minister Elise Archer said, “We’ve invested in 100 additional teachers that were cut under the Labor-Green government.
